Following its announcements of 5 May 2021 updating the New Industrial Strategy proposed in 2020, the European Commission has additional indicated that it’ll rely quite closely on industry to deliver on the main challenges faced by our economies and societies in Europe. This is particularly the case in relation to sustainability, digital transformation, and global competitiveness, in addition to the necessity to overcome the crisis provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic. The EU Recovery and Resilience Plan launched in Spring 2021 is basically constructing on the potential of European trade to design and produce the constructing blocks of the dual green and digital transition. At the identical time, the EU is shaping a dense regulatory framework that does not at all times help the liberty and adaptability wanted for corporations to develop and compete globally.
The European know-how industries, and in particular our pumps, compressors, faucets and valves sectors, have for a really long time thought of the enhancement of their global competitiveness throughout the challenges of societal and environmental challenges, notably by contributing to the preparation of energy efficiency and ecolabel rules. In parallel, digitalisation has offered increased opportunities and introduced new challenges, together with debates on the suitable regulatory stage (sharing of business information, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, etc).
These developments, amidst ever extra fierce worldwide competition, require that public authorities and industry within the EU work increasingly extra closely to design and deploy methods that reinforce our competitiveness and our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This will be the subject of the preliminary debate kicking off our Joint EU Policy Conference, which can convey collectively key coverage makers from the three EU policy establishments in management of the Industrial Strategy and three Executives representing and illustrating the achievements loved, and challenges still faced, by these three key sectors of business.
Specific Technical and Policy Issues
As the regulatory panorama throughout Europe, and certainly the entire world, becomes ever extra complicated, the burden on trade solely increases. It subsequently falls to sector specific trade organisations, corresponding to Europump, CEIR and Pneurop, to identify and advise on those technical and policy issues most relevant to their respective sectors. In our particular area, that relates, in fact, to the manufacture, distribution and use of pumps and all pump associated gear – a huge and necessary subset of trade, given the width and breadth of pump purposes.
Against this backdrop, one of the major concerns when determining the core themes for the joint conference was to maintain a direct reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Within this focus, the three associations intend to spotlight how, together with the significance for companies to deal with technical aspects impacting their daily business operations, they think about the positive function of industry in addressing societal challenges. Indeed, all of the sessions may have a technical theme matching essentially the most acceptable UN SDG, and with representation from the European Commission together with technical experts from trade and/or research institutes, they will every be reflective of the present legislative terrain, as it relates to pumps and pumping techniques in the following key areas:
Circular Economy & Eco-design (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 12: Responsible Consumption and Production)
Industry’s Digital Transformation and Innovation (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)
The restriction of use of supplies and substances of concern (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 6: Clean Water and Sanitation)
The regulatory and legislative panorama throughout Europe is becoming increasingly advanced, and business, in all its guises, needs to be aware and ready for what is coming. By participating with these trade organisations that symbolize your best pursuits, you presumably can hold abreast of all of the compliance developments as they affect your small business and the areas during which you use.
